I disagree with your analysis today that oil companies are to blame for the continuing high oil/gas prices...even at the pump. I can sum it up in two words: "dollar debasement". We continue to run high twin deficits (trade and budget) combined with a long time negative current account. We are seeing a diversification out of the dollar into hard, currency assets of precious metals and currencies of resource-export nations. In addition, several countries are engaging in swap agreements to settle the sale of certain goods between them in other-than-dollar currencies. Until this proligate spending government gets spending under control and stops this incessant monetization of debt, this will only continue.

Per local news yesterday, 4/19/2011, average retail gas prices in northern california, $4.20/ gallon. Yes, world of hurt is about right. Guess this is known as "trickle down theory".
