Rare Air
John S Hopkins Jr - May 19, 2013
The Dow and S&P continue to set new records almost every day. Since the S&P broke 1600 on May 3 it has put in a new high 8 out of 10 days, including Friday's high and close of 1667.47. This climb higher on the S&P comes even as the index is very overbought and gets everyone wondering how much higher it can climb. It's a good question because we've never seen the S&P in this territory before so there are few historical levels to look at to come up with an answer . . . keep reading

I have been involved in trading in the market in one way or another, either individually or through the Invested Central community, for over 30 years. During that period of time I have amassed a great deal of knowledge, some from self learning, and from the immense amount of information and feedback I have received over the years from the trading community . . . keep reading

Stuck in moderate gear
John S Hopkins Jr - April 21, 2013
The market struggled all week long to get its footing, clearly the roughest week so far in 2013. But, the bulls did still managed to hold the line at the key 50 day moving average on the S&P 500 . . . keep reading
Do Earnings Really Matter?
John S Hopkins Jr - April 14, 2013
We're now at the beginning of the earnings season where thousands of companies are set to report their numbers over the next several weeks. The question becomes, do earnings really matter and how has the market reacted to the numbers the past few years . . . keep reading
Beyond technical analysis
John S Hopkins Jr - April 07, 2013
Learning to read a chart is a critical part of becoming a technical trader but it doesn't stop there. Instead, there are so many other variables that traders must take in to consideration day in and day out that it would be impossible to list them all in one blog . . . keep reading
The case for AAPL
John S Hopkins Jr - March 31, 2013
Apple has been struggling since it topped out just over $700 back in September, 2012. It has recently made a move off of a bottom but even now profit taking kicks in whenever it looks like the stock is ready to make an even higher move . . . keep reading
Just what the Fed was hoping for
John S Hopkins Jr - March 24, 2013
There's a reason the Fed has left rates lower for a long time and will continue to do so in the foreseeable future. They're hoping to revive the housing market and equity market all at once, and its working . . . keep reading
Don't fret being left out
John S Hopkins Jr - March 17, 2013
The market has gotten to a level where it truly is one day at a time here. The Dow has reached an all time high, having climbed upwards for 10 trading days, while the S&P is a mere 16 points away from its all time high. . . . keep reading
A long time coming
John S Hopkins Jr - March 10, 2013

A Not so Bold Call
John S Hopkins Jr - February 14, 2013
There are certain things that drive me crazy and one of them is when someone like the CEO of Goldman Sachs this past week gave his "State of the Union" talk on CNBC and says "we could be on the threshold of a bull market." . . . keep reading
Why the "Pros" are wrong
John S Hopkins Jr - February 10, 2013
An increasing chorus of professional market watchers are calling for a major correction here including Blackstone Advisory Partner Brien Wien who is calling for a 200 point correction on the S&P and investor Doug Kass who told CNBC he is at his highest net short position of the year. I have to say I disagree with both of them. . . . keep reading
Consider the Response rather than the News
John S Hopkins Jr - February 01, 2013
The market has started out the year on an extremely positive note. The month of January ended with the S&P up over 5%, one of the best starts to the year ever. The first day of February got off to a strong start as well with the S&P up 1% and the Dow Jones closing back over 14,000 and clearly within striking distance of its all time high of 14,164 achieved back in April, 2007. . . . keep reading
